Helping Sustain an Ecosystem
I’ve heard many rumors that the cork forests are endangered because of the wine cork industry switching to synthetic corks. This is a very interesting rumor. Cork forests can only be endangered if they are not used, not because they are being harvested “too much.” It’s all in the harvesting; it doesn’t kill the tree, it helps it grow.
Current mainstream cup sleeves use paper as their base. It is accepted knowledge that paper is harvested from trees that are removed from their environment; they are cut down. I’m not sure I would want to use a cup sleeve that uses paper, essentially being able to wipe out an ecosystem, or at least damage it in some way. The cup sleeve I would want to use would be from a renewable resource, have little impact on its surrounding ecosystem, feel great, look good and do the job.
CoolCorC cup sleeves are innovative in their use of cork. Cork is all natural and is harvested from the bark of the cork trees. The cork forests have been harvested for thousands of years; and as such, a small yet incredibly diverse ecosystem has evolved. Since harvesting the cork is not invasive to the animals and plants of the cork forests, man’s influence on the area is none if any. The cup sleeve I would want to use would be the CoolCorC cup sleeve.
